00:25 Starting to push. Ana is doing a great job. The little nap has refreshed her and she is a natural. Ana pushes only a few times together with Laurie and we can already see the little head which has dark hair. I am still wondering how the baby is going to fit…. Yes it is the first time for Ana and myself. Laurie compliments Ana on here excelletn pushng job. We go three times, 10 seconds, together with the contractions. Ana does not feel them very strongly, so we use the meter as an indicator to start.<\/p>\n
After only 5-7 contractions Laurie gets the doctor and we can start with the delivery. We need only two contractions until the head starts to appear. Ivan is the typical conehead baby which make the pressing easier for Ana.<\/p>\n
When the baby head and body miraculously appear Ivan is rather blue which I guess is due to the fact that the cord is once wound around his neck. The doctor untangles the mess and cleans Ivan breathing canals, mouth and nose. Ivan takes a few seconds and than softly starts to cry a little and then a little more. My very quick checks are very positive. All is complete: eyes, nose, ears, hands, fingers, feet and toes. After a bit of drying and cleaning also the blue color has disappeared and Ivan already gesticulates with his arms and fingers. He is quite calm and tries to open his eyes. There is probably too much light and he needs to keep his eyes shut a little.<\/p>\n
Ana meanwhile is doing great. She gets Ivan in her arms on her breasts and she is as happy as a new mother can be. I cut the cord Ivan convenient life support. From now on he is an independent little personality.<\/p>\n
The birth time is determined to be 00:54.<\/p>\n
Now, Ivan undergoes a long list of checks whether everything is okay and he gets measured in all possible ways. Ivan weights 3.865 kg (8.09.6 pounds), is 54 cm long has drak curly hair and dark eyes. All the tests come out fine and we have a healthy and handsome little baby. Meanwhile Ana pressed out the remainders and they come in one piece without further problem. All looks very healthy. Ana needs to areas of stitches because of small ruptures. The doctor is very content and thinks she has done very well.<\/p>\n
I ask Ana what she thinks about a second one and she says yes without hesitation. What more can one want? We make a round of photos with Ana, me and granny. I try to call Pup in Bad Godesberg but the telephone is occupied. Finally we call Susanne and get her on the phone. She is excited, wishes us all the best and will pass the message on.<\/p>\n
Before we go up to the nursery where little Ivan will get his bath and Ana will be getting some rest, Ivan is docked onto mothers breasts for the first time. It works out well the little one is a real sucker. Ana seems to have something for him. After both sides have been carefully inspected he seems to be tired and gets ready for a nap. He is probably as tired as Ana after the birth.<\/p>\n
Like a little caravan we move up to the nursery, in front Laurie with Ana in a wheel chair, next comes Mum pushing a cart with all our
\nbelongings and finally at the end the proud father manoeuvres the wagon with his little son on top…. Already sleeping happily.<\/p>\n
I bring Mum home so she can get some sleep and prepare the Web page for Ivan. The name so far is in the German spelling ‘Iwan’ which we decide later to change to the Spanish spelling also consistent with the English version of the name Mum takes a quick look at the picture drinks a glass of wine to settle down and goes to bed. I write the first two most urgent e-mails (family, friends and co-workers) and post a CDF news with the short information about Ivan. Then I grab Ana’s glasses, the small blue blanket and a pillow and drive back to the hospital. When I arrive Ana very shortly awakes and says that she is fine. I prepare the sofa-bad and try one more time to call Pup. Finally it rings and when he takes of the telephone I can already hear children’s noise which I extrapolate to be from Susanne’s Bande of kids. This turns out to be correct and Pup is glad to hear again that all went so well. They will bring Ivan once he awakes for feeding.<\/p>\n
Time for me know to take a nap….<\/p>\n
Ivan is brought to his mother for a feast, although it needs some convincing because he is still so tired. Ivan passes his hearing test without problem and also the paediatrician is happy with our boy. Ivan gets his first hepatitis shot and is pretty upset about it but tranquillizes pretty quickly in mumies arms.<\/p>\n
