<\/a><\/p>\nTwo things to note on the sign that we found on Ivan’s room C619 (Crown house) inside the Renee Granville-Grossman residence<\/a> or otherwise referred to as South Campus: the name is Paus Ivan which should have been Ivan Paus and he is claimed to be from Arlington in Michigan :-).<\/p>\n
Breakfast<\/h4>\n
Taking off in the car asking google for advice we stumbled on Daley’s Cafe a place right under the L track in walking distance. It was a very nice simple and hardy breakfast and our waitress asked whether we were Junior and Senior. A place to remember in a black dominated neighborhood with friendly personnel. I think I will go back :-).<\/p>\n
Bed, Bath and Beyond<\/h4>\n
We had identified 3 missing items: pillows, blanket and soap. We drove to the nearest Bed, Bath and Beyond and purchased a queen and a king pillow, added two king pillow cases and fond a great bid bottle of soap. We drove back to the dorm and Ivan went up to drop everything off. He met Aden and his mother but came back quickly. I had decided to ping Jose Luis and we agreed that we would come by for a quick visit.<\/p>\n
Jose Luis visit in Arlington Heights, IL<\/h4>\n
Jose Luis had recently moved to Arlington Heights after they had lived for a few years in an appartment in Chicago. A fine neighborhood with a lof of small houses, perfect for a couple.<\/p>\n
Jose Luis and Kim served us a nice deep dish pizza and we drank a beer and caught up on what has been going on in the last few years. We left after having finished the pizza and beer knowing that Kima and Jose Luis had work to do, but not before exchanging addresses and phone numbers.<\/p>\n
The drop-off<\/h4>\n
On our way back we put gas in the car and when we arrived we met with Aden and his mother. The husband could not come because of work but they seemed a wonderful couple from Beijing who had moved to California. Also Aden seemed like the perfect room mate for Ivan.<\/p>\n
After some small talk I wished Ivan fairwell and left for the airport.<\/p>\n
Chicago Weather and Midway<\/h4>\n
I arrived with plenty of time at Midway. The lines in security were long but I was not in a rush. Meanwhile it had been hot and humid (30-32 C) and a storm came down on Chicago. As it happened it caused a massive diversion of planes that could not land in Chicago, including our plane to Boston. It was stuck in Indiannapolis. Finally, after already alerting my colleagues that I might not make it for the lecture at 9am in the morning, we started the flight shortly after midnight and arrived in Boston at 3:20am. I had a decent nab but it was a little harsh after having gotten up at 4am. I luckily found a cab and got home shortly before 4am.<\/p>\n
A 24 hour ordeal. It was a memorable day. Lecture went well in the morning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
